With the start‑up of our commercial X3D^® production plant in Ludwigshafen, we enable rapid access to customized catalysts at industrial scale. This helps our customers accelerate process optimization, boost production performance, and reduce CO₂ emissions, supporting their sustainability goals without compromising throughput. 

X3D^® marks the first real step change in catalyst shaping in decades. By combining additive manufacturing with industrial catalyst production, we enable shapes that actively improve reactor performance, efficiency, and sustainability. What makes X3D^® special is that it is not a concept, it is already delivering value at industrial scale.

Already at the first plant we observed significant efficiency gains when applying the X3D^® catalyst, such as lower pressure drop at the converter and reduced consumption of energy and caustic soda. Encouraged by this performance, we have already rolled out the new catalyst across several plants.

The plant started up smoothly, and plant performance has significantly improved compared to the past. Production achieved a record high, generating substantial economic benefits for our company. We will continue our collaboration with BASF to promote catalyst upgrades and replacements across additional units.
