Catalyst Development and Solids Processing Center

Enhanced scale-up capability and reduced time to market

BASF inaugurated its new Catalyst Development and Solids Processing Center at its headquarter in Ludwigshafen in December 2024. This state-of-the-art research facility will function as a central hub for pilot-scale synthesis of chemical catalysts, allowing BASF to provide global customers with quicker access to innovative technologies. Additionally, this pilot plant will play a vital role in advancing new solids processing technologies.

Why BASF

As the global leader in chemical catalysts, BASF develops cutting-edge catalyst chemistry with our customers’ needs in mind. Catalysts reduce the energy demand and the amount of undesired by-products, minimizing raw material consumption and reducing the carbon footprint of products. BASF not only develops catalyst and process technologies for its customers worldwide, it also uses them in its own manufacturing plants.

BASF excellerates time to market with new facility

The Catalyst Development and Solids Processing Center marks a significant investment in the future of research and development for BASF: Equipped with cutting-edge process technology, the facility enables BASF to focus on rapid development of innovative catalysts and process technologies essential for the green transformation. It provides the ideal environment for transitioning lab-developed catalysts to production scale, allowing BASF to deliver high-quality pilot samples to customers. This flexibility enables BASF to respond more swiftly to market demands and supply innovative technological solutions faster, which is crucial for the successful launch of new products.
